Abû Huraïra

The illustrious Companion whose life we are about to trace belongs to the Arab tribe of the Daws, located in the Tihama region of the southern Arabian Peninsula. Most of this tribe embraced Islam rather late after Revelation, in the year 6-7 of the Hegira. In pre-Islamic times, their name was ‘Abd al-Shams, meaning “the servant of the sun”.

After his conversion, he relentlessly followed the Prophet to retain and pass on everything he learned from him. Indeed, as some may have guessed, this noble Companion is none other than Abû Huraïra , the famous and indispensable transmitter of hadith.
