The Banû Hâshim, a noble lineage

Allah chose children from Ismâ’îlu kinâna, He chose Quraysh from Kinâna, He drew Banû Hâshim from Quraysh and He chose me from Banû Hâshim, the Messenger once said, underlining in this way the merit of this progeny of his. And at the height of the battle of Hunayn, at a time when everything was in danger of tipping in favor of his enemies, he said: “I am a Prophet without any imposture, I am the son of ‘Abd al-Muttalib”, referring to his grandfather, patriarch in his time of the Banû Hâshim.

Certainly, the Banû Hâshim constitute the noblest Qurayshite branch, and although the Messenger never ceased to remind us that an individual’s ancestry will be of no use to him before God if piety is lacking, he will indeed say:

“And as for him whose works leave him behind, it is not his lineage that will advance him to his salvation.”

The fact remains that the bloodline is the matrix through which noble values are transmitted via education.
