This is the latest in a series of articles which, as in the first edition of our magazine, will be devoted to 10 frequently asked questions in the field of Muslim law (al-fiqh). In this series, we make no claim to being exhaustive, but we have chosen to select those that seemed to us the most relevant and recurrent. And God alone is Knowledgeable.
We have chosen to treat them according to the thematic order adopted by our jurisconsults, concentrating on the cultic aspect(al-‘ibâdât) as opposed to social relations(al-mu’âmalât), the other major aspect of Muslim law. The former governs the bond between the servant and his Lord, while the latter sheds light on the prescriptions governing relations between servants, such as marriage, divorce, inheritance, etc.
